CGC Grain Statistics Weekly · Producer deliveries

Overview

Producer deliveries, exports, licensed processing and commercial stocks for 15 Western Canadian crops, with selling pace measured against StatCan crop estimates.

How to read these numbers
  • Producer deliveries are what farmers deliver into the licensed system: country elevators, straight to processors, and producer cars. Grain fed on the farm or sold farm-to-farm or to feedlots is not counted, so deliveries run below production, far below for oats, barley and corn.
  • Figures are Western Canadian grain. Exports and terminal stocks leave out grain graded Canada Eastern, so they will not match the all-Canada totals in CGC's weekly report. Soybean and corn exports through eastern ports still include grain grown outside Western Canada, because those grades do not record origin.
  • "Sized to the crop" divides deliveries by StatCan's latest western production estimate. For the current crop year that estimate is still in-season, so the share moves when StatCan revises the crop, not only when farmers deliver.
  • The full-year pace projection is simple arithmetic: deliveries so far divided by the share that usually arrives by this week. It assumes a normal seasonal pattern and is not a forecast. Canola's page has a separate, backtested forecast.
  • Weekly numbers are the change in CGC's crop-year totals, which CGC revises. A single week can be lumpy or even negative after a revision; weeks 21 and 22 are one combined holiday report.
  • Each crop's page adds its own Things To Watch, exports by port, processing, country elevator throughput, port terminals, Thunder Bay, export grades and the full history.
